FTSE100 (LFTN)

The FTSE-future (Financial Times Stock Exchange) is a future contract of the FTSE index.

The contract is traded on the futures market  Euronext Liffe.

Summary Contract Specifications

  • Unit of trading : 10
  • Contract size :  10 £ x the level of the FTSE-index
  • Delivery months  : March, June, September and December
  • Last trading date : Third Friday of the delivery month
  • Quotation : In points (each full point = £ 10 per contract)
  • Minimum price movement : 0,5 points (= £ 10 per contract)

Trading example:

  • The FTSE future on 16 december 2009 at 5.270.
  • The value of the FTSE future is 5.270 x 10 £ = 52.700 £.
  • Buy at 5.270 and sell at 5.300
  • The minimum price movement of 'tick'  is 0,5 points.
  • The tickvalue or 0,5 points is 5 £
  • 30 points = 60 ticks
  • The value  of 30 points = 60 ticks x 5 £ = 300 £

When the FTSE futures goes from 5.270 £ to 5.300 £ a 300 £ is realised.
